It’s time to get out of our classroom-centric, closed-door rooms. We will share our successes and challenges of cross-curricular and community involvement in the high school English classroom. It’s about helping students make real-world connections through working with other classes and engaging with the larger community.

W. Isaiah Garnett is an English teacher at Hart County High School affectionately known as “Mr. G”. He obtained his Associate and Bachelor’s degrees from Emmanuel University in Franklin Springs, Georgia. He hails from Fredericksburg, Virginia. He is a loving, dedicated father of four. When he is not in the classroom, he coaches the Hart County Middle School 7th Grade Boys basketball team. He currently volunteers with the Two Tunics Mobile Ministry by gathering and delivering donated clothing for those less fortunate during the cold winter months. He enjoys writing poetry to express his inner thoughts and feelings with vibrant words for sharing with hopes of inspiring and comforting others. Colleagues and students alike note his love of students, his zeal for learning, his musical antics with his beloved guitar, his positive attitude, his heart for serving others, and his involvement in various aspects to strengthen his community.
Linda Frye is in her twenty-second year as an educator and her fifth year at Hart County High School in Hartwell, Georgia. She currently teaches English to 10th through 12th grade students in the following courses: AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature and Composition, and American Literature. She earned all four of her degrees from Kennesaw State University: Bachelor of Arts in English, Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary English Education, Education Specialist in Secondary English Education, and Education Doctorate in Secondary English Education. She’s a wife, a mom, an oma, and a dog-mom, all of which bring her immense joy.
