Inclusivity and diversity are important in children’s and young adult’s literature. Grounded in the concept of “mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors” this session will assist educators in exploring their own multiple identities and in selecting texts that support this exploration for their students.

Kimberly Stephens is a doctoral candidate in the College of Education at Mercer University in Atlanta, Georgia. She currently works as a 6th grade English language arts teacher at Utopian Academy for the Arts in Fayetteville, Georgia. She is interested in developing school-community partnerships to promote reading motivation for middle school students.
