Grammar can be Beautiful: Re-imagining Grammar Instruction through Multimodal Texts and Authentic Practice (058)
Teachers will participate in hands-on lessons that use mentor texts–famous works of art, visual media, songs, student and teacher-selected texts–to provide students with opportunities to master grammar concepts with low-stakes writing. Teachers will develop interwoven lessons that target the literacy analysis, writing, and grammar aspects of the revised Georgia ELA Standards.

Jessica Preston is a 21-year veteran English teacher, with experience at both the middle and high school levels. She currently teaches at Monroe Area High School, where she also serves as the department chair. Ms. Preston recently developed a course entitled “Grammar for Teachers” for Toccoa Falls College. She is formerly the 2009 GCTE Middle School Teacher of the Year.
